November Fall Break

We started our November off with a quick trip to Ohio. Ian had a week off from school for Fall Break so we thought we would take advantage of the time and head up to visit with Shelly and Dave. It turned out that Shelly was able to coordinate a Memorial Celebration for Fran, my grandmother, who passed away a few months ago. It was a wonderful time together with both sides of my family and many of my grandparents' friends. I hadn't seen some of these people in years. It was funny watching them sort through me, Brenna and Colin to figure out who was the oldest. To my pleasure it wasn't always as easy as you might have thought - Brenna was slightly dismayed though. We even had my 2nd cousin (I think), Fran's cousin, Sean and his wife Carol, come and visit from Chicago. Sean grew up in Ireland at the family house in Drumshambough before coming to the US so he was able to show us lots of pictures and fill out some family stories and history that was foggy. I hope something takes us to Chicago so we can meet their children and grandchildren.
It was a nice time of joyful remembrance. My mom and aunt Liz both spoke, Dave and my Uncle Keith both lead prayers, Brenna sang and Pop, my grandfather, read some poetry he had written for Fran. It was a very special event and we were glad to be in Ohio with everyone.
We spent the rest of our time relaxing, hiking at the Ledges and Hocking Hills state parks, visiting the Lego store in Columbus, golfing, shooting paintballs, celebrating Dave and Monday's birthday, walking dogs and jumping in leaves.
