So I finally figured out a way to overcome my IT woes of late 2012.  Just start a new blog.  Duh!

Nora's Knock-knock

Nora is in a creative knock-knock phase right now.  

I love these bursts of nonsense.  Most are so crazy that I couldn't even repeat them two seconds later because there is nothing that combines in any sort of brain recognizing logic, but I do remember this one from getting ready for school.

Momma:  Who's there?

 

Nora:  Toothpaste Puppy

 

Momma:  Toothpaste Puppy who?

 

Nora:  CHEEEEEEEEESE!

Blogger Waterloo

So, a couple of week back - ok maybe more than a few weeks judging from the date of the previous post, I hit a snag in my blogging.  I was all caught up after our summer and trying to reestablish my habit of taking time to sit at the computer (not just check my email on my phone) and sort through pictures, reconcile and record my day.  

Just when I thought things were getting easy, I used up the last drop of photo storage that comes with this free blogger set up.  Ugh. I find that I am in a place right now where just a little roadblock can turn into a dead end really fast.  Not on major important priorities of course, but the extra stuff that I enjoy doing.  If they don't come easy right now, I have very little extra time and energy to figure them out.  Totally not an excuse, because I can still type as much as I would like but for some reason, without a picture I feel like my kid stories aren't complete.

I will be back on track soon after some long awaited consultation with my IT guy (Chris).  I am looking forward to devoting an entire day after Christmas when the kids will be happily entertained all day with their shiny new toys to be caught up, if not sooner.

Poetry Day

The kids and I have been brainstorming back and forth about a "ferret named Garrett with a friend parrot" for some time now.  Yesterday was a glorious day and with Chris off doing work stuff we spent the whole morning outside playing and just enjoying the day.  At one point I went in and grabbed some paper to write down our "Garrett ferrett" poem.  I was glad I did because we all had a blast working out rhyming words and plot ideas.  We even ended up with a Nora and Ian poem too.

 

"Garrett the Ferret"

 

Garrett the ferret

had a friend parrot

who had a fine carrot

but wouldn't share it.

 

Garrett saw the carrot

and couldn't compare it.

It looked so amazing

He couldn't bear it.

 

The parrot said, I can't tear it.

The parrot said, I can't dare it.

The parrot said, I can't wear it.

You are such a good friend,

I will share it.

Hunt School Fall Carnival Night

We had another fun time at the Hunt School Fall Carnival last night.  We have several good friends whose children attend school there and we are thankful they invited us to come a few years back.  It is a great atmosphere with families all around.  The kids love going from game to game .  Garrett's favorite was the one where you hit a lever with a mallet and try to fling a rubber frog onto a lily pad, Nora's was "the fishing one" where you pretend to cast a rod over a wall and then "catch" a fish, aka prize.  Ian liked the dart toss at balloons.  All the kids wandered and visited with friends along the way.

New this year was a costume contest which we arrived just in time to join.  Chris and I were mingling with parents in the crowd and we kept seeing the three of them be moved closer and closer to the front until finally we realized they were in the top three.  Believe it or not they ended up 1st place!  I loved Caleb and Asher as Sherlock and Watson.  Katie did an awesome job on Caleb's cape and the bowler made Dr. Watson.  I completely loved the Lego guy.  Obviously a lot of hard work went into that costume!  

We went with the full family theme again this year - it seems simpler when everyone is on the same page.  My three blind mice were a hit.  I was the farmer's wife and Chris then inferred farmer.

Birthday Buddies

Ian celebrated his 9th birthday today.  

Originally we had planned to go to Enchanted Rock State Natural Area for his birthday party.  

His school had an early dismissal day, it is one of his favorite places, the weather all that week was gorgeous..... and then it rained all Friday morning.

Enchanted Rock and rain do not mix.  

We changed gears fast and decided to take everyone over to West End Pizza not far from his school. 

It worked out well and after one minute of disappointment he regrouped and was thrilled. The only weird thing was the "log cake" he had requested.  It would have made more sense sitting outside at Enchanted Rock with fall leaves all around.

 I really enjoy his class.  They are a great group of 3rd and 4th graders and it was really a pleasure to host them

Ian is a growing boy in every way.  

Physically, mentally, spiritually you name it it is getting bigger.  He has always "thought big" but now he can come to his own conclusions or just talk a thought out completely by himself, though he still wants you there to listen.  He recognizes himself in the position of knowing what is right but not always wanting to do it, or not wanting to do it with the attention, gusto, joy, or perseverance it deserves.  It is frustrating at times to watch him and counsel him through, but I think it is going well so far.  

Chris and I are learning more each year too!

All part of the process of forming those habits that will serve him through 90 more years!

Happy Birthday Buddy!

Elk Camp 2012

Chris headed up to Northern Colorado with Pat, Jeremy, and Scott last week to see if he could get an elk this year... and he did!  It took him three days of hunting and a strenuous hike, that I think by the end of the story had him walking uphill both ways, but he got one.  I am pretty sure he had a good time and the kids and I did very well on our own for the week. 

Of course my kitchen turned into a butcher shop for a day or two and this year Nora was in on the action.  Butcher Princess on duty.
